They have to had select the finest barely and dry it in the kiln. This is how they get that smoky flavor. After all the ingredients have been added into the barrel, the spirit is about 70% alcohol. It sits in a barrel and distills for three years to become a whisky.
A single malt is basically a type of whiskey. It is the hardest process of making a whiskey and is in its purest form. The effort and time in making these liquors is why you will see such a high price tag. But, if you know and appreciate your scotch, you will have no problem with the price tag.
